Light & Optimism, for the conceptual solution and making of a sculptural shape with light effects intended for the exterior – a garden, which creates a modern and sculptural illuminated design. A selection of the sculptural forms will be on display outside the new, soon-to-be opened Zepter Art House. The contestants are expected to propose a visual solution for illuminated sculptures, for a maximum height of 3,5 m, technically feasible in a wide range of modern, durable, and weather-proof materials (since they are designated for open space).
The entry must be an original, unique creation whose lines, surfaces, volumes, proportions and illumination will reflect the designer’s vision. An Expert Jury appointed by Zepter International will select the most successful works on this topic

This is a televised competition. Artists enter with a self-portrait created within the last 5 years. They are selected on merit by our panel of expert judges. At the heats they are given four hours to paint a surprise celebrity sitter. Eight heat winners get to compete at the Semi-Final. Three Semi-Finalists are selected for the Final. Just one Finalist is selected as the overall winner.

Filming of Portrait Artist of the Year is planned to take place at Battersea Arts Centre in March and April 2022.

here is a strong preference for any public art to be based on the theme of ‘the history of Mote Park’ – for example, memories of the past, people and children using the park over the years, the parks significant links to Maidstone. Artists are free to work in any medium and to interpret the history of Mote Park theme in any way they wish. Artists are encouraged to explore new technologies and creative ideas for the design and development of the public art, but the final work must be permanent, accessible to all ages of the public and conceived with a clear understanding of the location and footfall the area will experience. Artists are also invited to consider how their piece of public art could be used to raise the profile and celebrate not just Mote Park, but Maidstone and it’s heritage. There is a preference for a digital/AR app or some kind of interactive artwork trail around the park, but other ideas will be considered (e.g. single stand-alone sculpture). The commissioned artist will be expected to work alongside selected local schools for a number of public engagement activities and workshops.
